Progress on the New CD

June 30, 2006

Kris Dale rocks.  Wednesday evening Kris pulls up to my house promptly at 8:30pm (this is notable, because punctuality and musicians are mutually exclusive words) and after some cordial pitter patter proceeds to lay down four stellar bass tracks in just three hours.  All this in spite of my dreadful ProTools engineering skills and the last minute charts (which were wrong!!!) I wrote up on scraps of paper.  I don't even think he stopped long enough to finish the one beer he drank.

Kris Dale Kris Dale Smiles Kris Dale lays down another track...
Ladies and Gentleman, bass player extraordinary, Kris Dale...

He put fretless bass tracks down on four more of the songs slated for my new CD:

  • Daylight
  • Blue Ridge
  • Get Your Ass Up Off the Floor
  • Moving in and Out

In other music news, I bought a Dejembe drum last week and have been having a blast.  I really suck, but it's incredibly fun to suck playing drums of any kind.  Having something to beat on at the end of any day is a good thing. Hopefully I can get some chops together so I can put some tracks on the new CD.  Ah, the new CD, the mythic new CD that has been talked about for ages. I plan to have the damn thing finished for better or worse by the end of summer.  Just when I start to lose faith in it, something like Kris Dale happens to it and I'm all excited again. I can't wait for you to hear what he layed down.

It's going to be a very busy weekend. I have to teach a Flash Intermediate class at Emory all day tomorrow and then in the evening I play at The Hungry Ear Coffeehouse series.  I have also promised Ian and Dylan that Sunday is the first day of shooting for the feature film they have been writing: "The Adventures of Calvin and Finn 'The Mummy Eater' Chickenheimer."  Stay tuned for the world premier ;-)
