Sleep is not Over-rated

September 4, 2003

Damn, it seemed like a good idea to stay up well past 1am last night working on some new recordings, but I am paying for it now. Nothing like the 6:50 am wake-up call: "Daaaaaddy, mooorning daaaaaddy!"

Tom came over last night and we worked on tracking some new songs: Last Chance Turnaround, Sea if Blue and You're Driving Me Insane.  The jury's still out on how good the overall quality of these homespun recordings is going to be, but we're having fun putting them together anyway. I think the harmonies on these new songs are amazing and beautiful.

The boys are growing up so fast. Looking at these pictures from bathtime last night I am struck by the overwhelming feeling that this precious time is going by at light speed. In a few short years there will be nothing left of their babyness. Further proof: two nights ago at storytime, Ian asks me out of the blue, "Daddy, is fuck a bad word?" I nearly fell out of bed! "Where did you hear that?!?" I asked. "It was written on the school bus."  He wanted a definition. I didn't have one. How do you define such a gloriously ambiguous word for a 7 year old?  "It's a bad word and will get you in deep trouble," I said in the most believable voice of authority I could muster.
